About the job

Role Overview: As a Senior IBM WebSphere ND & Liberty Cloud Engineer, you will oversee the management and modernization of a legacy WebSphere ND infrastructure, while serving as a subject matter expert in facilitating migration to the IBM Liberty cloud solution. This position requires a keen focus on delivering robust, scalable solutions and acting as a technology referent within a dynamic, cross-functional team based primarily in Belgium.

  • Infrastructure Management: Maintain and optimize the existing IBM WebSphere ND platform, ensuring its stability and operational excellence across business-critical environments.
  • Cloud Migration: Lead and support the transition of traditional WebSphere applications to IBM Liberty within a private cloud, working alongside architects, infra suppliers, and technology engineers to create a future-proof platform.
  • Team Guidance: Guide and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality support, incident resolution, and implementation in line with the group's technology roadmap and standards.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal customers, service providers, and APS production support teams. Facilitate communication and alignment between IT divisions across Belgium and France.
  • Technical Responsibilities: Build, maintain, and monitor environments, focusing on JVM performance, Red Hat Linux administration, Java-based applications, and secure deployments using TLS/SSL.
  • Methodology: Contribute to Agile/Scrum teams; utilize modern CI/CD practices and ITIL processes to ensure high standards of availability, security, and disaster recovery.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive hands-on expertise in IBM WebSphere ND (traditional BASE) and IBM Liberty (Core, Base), with more than 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Deep proficiency in Java, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat Linux administration, and networking technology.
  • Experience with shell scripting, preferably Bash, as well as infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible Tower is advantageous.
  • Experience with monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning JVMs in high-availability environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, ITIL practices, continuous deployment, disaster recovery, and cloud/containerization paradigms (CaaS).
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow and LDAP administration is a plus.

Working Environment: Hybrid work model (Belgium-based, with travel to France as necessary); collaboration within multinational teams; willingness to work outside standard business hours when required. Professional fluency in English is essential; proficiency in French is recommended, and Dutch is a plus.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a passion for enterprise technology and thrive as subject matter experts in complex, large-scale infrastructures. The ideal person naturally combines both deep technical expertise and a service-oriented mindset, confidently guiding teams through the management of legacy systems and ambitious migrations towards modern cloud solutions.

  • Expertise & Technical Mastery: We value seasoned professionals with an established track record in managing IBM WebSphere Network Deployment and Liberty environments, especially individuals experienced in leading lifecycle transitions from on-premise to private cloud solutions. A robust background working with Java-based applications, Apache Tomcat, TLS/SSL, and extensive Red Hat Linux administration is essential. Familiarity with related tools such as Terraform, Ansible Tower, and CaaS is highly appreciated.
  • Transversal Collaborators: The right candidate enjoys working cross-functionally, thriving in agile, multinational environments, and building bridges between multiple stakeholders. This includes seamless collaboration with international teams, architects, service providers, and vendor partners to shape and deliver a future-proof platform vision.
  • Leadership & Vision: We seek someone inspiring—capable of mentoring and guiding technology engineers while actively contributing to a roadmap aligned with strategic group objectives. The ideal candidate leads by example, championing reliability, security, and best practices (Agile/Scrum, ITIL, continuous deployment, disaster recovery) while nurturing a strong team spirit.
  • Service Mindset & Commitment: We appreciate individuals who demonstrate reliability, adaptability, and an unrelenting commitment to supporting internal customers and production operations. A willingness to participate in occasional travel and flexible work hours underscores a dedication to service excellence.
  • Communication & Multilingual Skills: Superior communication in English is required for success in this role; proficiency in French is highly valued, and Dutch is a welcome asset, fostering smooth stakeholder exchanges in a multicultural setting.
  • Qualifications: A Master’s degree or equivalent proven expertise, supported by over a decade of hands-on experience in relevant technology domains, is expected.

We are seeking proactive engineers who are driven to learn, enthusiastic about operational excellence, and resilient change agents eager to enable transformative technology journeys within a collaborative and diverse environment.
